Summertime is an interesting time for churchgoers. On one hand, Summer is great time for getaways and vacations. On the other hand, as families and individuals are planning for travel and rest, many churches are also planning for community outreaches, traditional Vacation Bible Schools, and camps. And they're likely asking for your help!
So what do you do when your calendar doesn't align with your church's calendar, and you can't lend a hand? Or what do you do when you're just physically unable to serve? Here are three simple ways you can still participate and bless your church's efforts:
Most importantly, pray! Philippians 4:6 encourages us, "in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Pray to God for your church's event(s). Pray for good soil in the hearts of those being reached. Pray for the work of the gospel in your community. Pray for everyone serving, that they could serve with God-given love, grace, and stamina. Pray for God's provision. Pray for changed lives.
Give. If you cannot be present, perhaps you can give toward your church's Summertime outreach? Ask your church if they need donated items or send in a financial gift to help offset costs. Your generosity will be a blessing, and it will play a role in what God is doing through your church for the eternal good of everyone in your community.
Spread the word. Let your friends and neighbors know about your church's event. Whether it's a VBS, a camp, a concert, or another form of community outreach, spread the word! You might not be able to attend or serve, but you could encourage others to be there, and their lives could be completely changed by the grace of God as a result.
Scripture for Meditation
"At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly" (Acts 10:1-2).
Prayer
Dear God, I petition you for my church's outreach efforts this Summer. Please give all your servants your love, grace, and stamina they need to serve with, and please draw in as many of the yet-to-believe in my community as possible, so they could hear all about your great love and your gift of salvation. Amen.
