When Christmas Isn't All Joy

It is said that Christmastime is the most wonderful time of the year. We even have a song about it. It’s supposed to be “the hap-happiest season of all,” filling our hearts with joy “when loved ones are near”. For many people, this is true, but it is also true that for many others Christmas is not all joy.

As we celebrate Christmas, let’s also be reminded that some of our friends and loved ones are experiencing painful trials. Take a moment this week to be an encourager to someone who could use your Christian love. Whether it’s a note or a text message—or a visit that comes with a big hug—express care to someone who needs it.

Remember, our Father in heaven is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, emphasis mine). Who can you be a source of comfort to during this Christmas season?
