What were some of your greatest joys as a child? For me, it was things like playing outside with neighborhood friends; going to the movies with our cousins; going to my grandparents’ homes and enjoying the best dishes from my grandmothers; and, of course, Thanksgivings and Christmases with the entire family gathered together.
When I think about it, my greatest joys as a child involved relationships. And yours probably did, too! And that’s because some of God’s greatest gifts to us are the relationships he has brought into our lives. When he created Adam, he noticed, “It is not good for the man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). So he’s given us spouses, children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, best friends, etc. But greatest of all, he’s given us himself! Through Christ, he has adopted us (Ephesians 1:5), and now we know him as our “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6). Talk about a reason to rejoice!
This week, rejoice in the relationships God has given you to enjoy in this life, especially your relationship with the Lord. Spend some time thanking him for these good gifts.
