Just As You Are?

You’ve probably heard the saying, “God loves you and welcomes you just as you are.” It’s true! We don’t need to be perfect or have it all together to be loved by God. However, it’s also true that God loves us too much to let us stay the same.

But God isn’t looking for better versions of ourselves. What God actually wants is to make us like his Son. If we’re the problem, a better version of us is not the solution. The solution is total transformation into the likeness of Jesus.

And here’s the beauty of God’s goodness: while he calls us through his Word to pursue holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16), it is he who does all that is necessary to make us more like Christ. He gives us transformative faith (Ephesians 2:8-9); his Holy Spirit renews us (2 Corinthians 5:17); he even guarantees he will one day finish his transformative work in our lives (Philippians 1:6).

Have you been weighted down by failures and shortcomings? Turn to God’s grace. Not only will you find forgiveness (1 John 1:9; 2:1), you’ll also find the spiritual enablement you need to be more like Jesus (Titus 2:11-14).
