An Antidote for Worry?

There are seasons when our hearts are impacted by stress and anxiety. Take for instance this year’s back-to-school season: our kids are returning to school with the effects and threats of the pandemic still around us, and we worry. What can we do in times when our hearts are stressed and burdened with worries?

In Philippians 4:6-7, the Apostle Paul states, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

It’s interesting to note that Paul doesn’t mention courage as the antidote to our worries. Rather, he points us to prayer, which reminds us of our dependence on our ever-faithful God. If you’ve been experiencing fear and worry lately, pray to the One you can always trust. The situation may or may not change, but praying will remind you of who reigns, and that will always bring peace to your heart.

What has been troubling you lately that you could bring to the Lord in prayer?
