The gospel of John gives us a beautiful, to-the-point depiction of the Christmas story: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” (John 1:14).
That’s it! That’s what Christmas was all about! The eternal second Person of the Trinity—the Son—took on human flesh and literally “pitched his tent” among us. And it’s through this incarnation that Jesus, as “God with us” (Matthew 1:23), revealed God to us in the most glorious way possible, for it’s through him that we most beautifully see God’s love, care, and compassion for our broken world.
One day, all who trust in Christ will experience his incarnational presence once again when we dwell with him in heaven (Revelation 21:3). But in the meantime, we get to be his incarnational presence to others.
This week, make an effort to "pitch your tent," invite others in, and show Jesus to them. Show them his grace. Show them his love. Show them his kindness. Imagine how your city would be transformed if every follower of Jesus did this! Be one who does.
